The Link Day Program
The SHC/The Arc of Medina County is now offering social and recreational day program services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The program is called The Link and is located in the heart of the city of Medina. Individuals who attend the The Link have the opportunity to learn skills and have fun in a social and supportive environment.
The goal of The Link is to provide new and meaningful experiences to program participants, following a curriculum model. Participants sign up for courses that follow a session calendar throughout the year. Currently, The Link offers courses in the following areas of interest:
- Nature Club. The Nature Club will explore the diverse world of science including environmental science, plants, animals, lakes and oceans, and the solar system.
- Cooking Made Simple. This course will provide training in basic cooking skills, nutritional facts and simple, healthful recipes.
- Swimming for Health and Fun. This course will teach individuals basic water safety skills and provide opportunities for improved endurance and mobility through supervised activities in the natatorium located at Camp Paradise.
- Ancestry. The Ancestry course will give individuals the opportunity to research their family history and background, while learning about the origins and customs of different cultures.
Coursework methodology includes video presentation, community trips, and task-specific supplies (e.g. cooking utensils). Admission fees may apply to community trips. The curriculum for each course is modified to address the skill level of the participants. The Link is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Transportation and day services can be provided through the appropriate funding sources.
